Realme’s new phone can fully charge in under 10 minutes

The phone (previously launched in China as the Realme GT Neo 5) supports incredibly fast 240W SuperVOOC charging, and the company claims the device’s 4,600mAh battery can be fully charged in less than 10 minutes. I claim that I can. For reference, the very new Galaxy S23 Ultra reaches full charge in about an hour with a 45W charge.

Mobile phone batteries have their limitations, so faster charging speeds have obvious advantages. Being able to plug in the phone for a few minutes before leaving the house can help ease users’ fears of running out of battery. Realme says a 30-second charge will give him enough power for two hours of talk or three hours of music playback.

To achieve these speeds, the company uses three 100W charging chips and a high-power dual GaN charger. And if you’re concerned about safety, Realme says the charging system he’s TÜV Rheinland Safe Fast-Charge System certified. Also, the battery should retain 80% of its capacity after his 1,600 charge cycles.

Realme isn’t the only one to show off its impressive charging chops. Redmi has revealed his 300W charging system for the improved smartphone. This allows him to charge a 4,100mAh battery within 5 minutes. However, as impressive as the demo was, it’s unclear when this tech will become a commercial device.

Aside from charging, the Realme GT3 offers some of the specs you’d expect from a top Android phone. It doesn’t have the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is still plenty powerful and less than a year old.And with up to 1 TB of storage and 16 GB of RAM available, you’ll be ready for anything. You should be able to handle it though.

The camera system isn’t the most impressive on paper, offering a 50MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide angle, and a 2MP microscope. Next to the camera housing is a neat RGB “pulse interface” that lights up to signal notifications, calls, battery status, and more.

On the front, we have a 6.74-inch (1240 x 2772) AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz and peak brightness of 1400 nits. At the top of the display is a 16MP selfie camera.
