Garmin has introduced its new Forerunner 965 and Forerunner 265 smartwatches with one big improvement. Screens are now AMOLED, moving away from transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) solutions. According to official figures, the 900 series flagship can last 23 days on a single charge, while the 200 series can last up to 15 days.
The Garmin Forerunner 965 is aimed at elite athletes. The new type of display is just one of the changes. Other features include a new titanium bezel, a slightly thinner body and a 1.4 inch (35.4 mm) screen. Standalone GPS, detailed heart rate, and specific features like Run Power Zones and Training Readiness.
AMOLED displays now show colorful maps, albeit slightly in real training scenarios.
The Garmin Forerunner 265 also has an AMOLED display, but is aimed at more casual runners. He comes in two sizes, 42mm and 46mm, and the larger he promises two weeks of long battery life. The device still provides SpO2 and VO2Max calculations and measurements, but some software features available on the 965 are off the table.
The Garmin Forerunner 965 is priced at $600 in three color combinations and the Forerunner 265 is priced at $450. Both are available for purchase now, but will start shipping in 5-8 weeks.
