Meta today announced that it is adding support for long Facebook reels of up to 90 seconds, along with some new creative tools. Previously, Facebook reels were limited to 60 seconds. This change comes a few months after Meta started supporting long Instagram reels of up to 90 seconds. The expansion follows TikTok’s foray into YouTube territory, with videos now up to 10 minutes long instead of his 3 minutes.
The company is also rolling out more creative tools, including a new template feature that allows users to create reels using trending templates. Introduced to Instagram Reels last year, this new feature allows users to create new His Reels using the same structure we just saw. Templates are somewhat similar to TikTok’s own template option.

Additionally, Facebook Reels has added a new “Grooves” feature. This feature uses visual beat technology to automatically match and synchronize the motion of your video to the beat of your favorite song. Syncing video to sound is a defining feature of TikTok, so it’s no surprise that Meta is bringing it to Facebook Reels after rolling it out with Instagram Reels last year.
It’s worth noting that all of these new Reels features were first introduced on Instagram over seven months ago and are now being released on Facebook. Before Meta brought it to Facebook Reels, it’s possible that they wanted to see how it was being used on Instagram Reels.
Facebook launched Reels last year in a move seen as a key part of Meta’s response to the TikTok threat. Meta initially saw Reels as a way to go head-to-head with TikTok with a feature within the Instagram app, but combined with Facebook, he sees a stronger counterattack if it allows cross-posting between the two social networks. I quickly realized that I could start a . .
Meta says Reels is the fastest growing format and continues to grow rapidly. Reel views on Facebook and Instagram have more than doubled in the last year, the company said in an email. We also note that Reels’ re-shares on Facebook and Instagram have more than doubled over the past six months. Meta will continue to roll out new features for Reels to make it easier for creators to find them.
