The internet was different from 2010 to 2014. I am sick of — my brother, everything was disgusting. I was doing an online quiz about which house I belonged to at Hogwarts. Breakthrough thing.
The online food culture was different back then.Basically it can be summed up with the phrase epic baconIn a nutshell, the biggest thing ten years ago was the YouTube channel Epic Meal Time.(opens in new tab)it would often center or prop up a ridiculous amount of bacon strips to make a ridiculously huge food product.
what happened to the smell of meat?
The KFC Double Down — a fried chicken sandwich in which two slabs of chicken act as “buns” — was very popular. of that moment. A fried chicken sandwich made with only fried chicken, cheese, bacon, and mayonnaise. Another name for it was a sampan. It was gluttonous, delicious and kind of gross. And now Double Down is back after his nine-year hiatus.
KFC announced(opens in new tab) Just four weeks from March 6th, Sandwich will be re-released. KFC sent me sandwich samples before the release date. As Mashable’s Chief Trash Food Correspondent, it was my duty to review this Fried Chicken Frankenstein, and I took my job very seriously.
Fun Fact: Do you know what else changed between 2010 and 2014? I was a young man with a matching appetite and metabolism. I could scarf a double down and then play pick-up basketball for two hours without blowing a chunk. Only 1 was able to exert power. Two fried chicken breasts, mayonnaise, cheese and big chunks of bacon strips don’t make for a good working lunch. I wondered what led me to this point.
It’s a big, chicken-like “sandwich”.

As for the taste, it’s not bad. I hadn’t eaten KFC in years. The chicken is juicy yet crispy. Sure, it was oversalted, but that’s fast food. I don’t mind mayonnaise, but I would have liked less mayonnaise. There were a few bites where the mayonnaise overtook all other flavors. The bacon was thin but fine. The cheese was warm but limp rather than melty.Sandwiches in general are hard bad. It’s fried chicken. Fried chicken kicks your butt.
But of course that’s very unrealistic. All ratios are off. Eating is a hassle. Your fingers get greasy quickly. Basically, you need a tight grip on the damn thing to hold it all together. People on today’s carnivore diets might be into it, but it probably won’t be the go-to sandwich for the general public.
Would you prefer a plain chicken sandwich? of course. The bread contains the ingredients, absorbs the grease, and distributes the mayonnaise evenly.
But alas, the Double Down wasn’t built with practicality in mind. It’s a gorgeous 2010s stunt hood. That’s epic bacon, baby.
