The winners were announced at the 3rd Annual World Nature Photography Awards. A mud-covered crocodile awaits is an unforgettable glimpse, but you can enjoy a visual feast from the other winners and runners-up.
Based in London, this fully independent competition aims to encourage people around the world to embrace different perspectives and change their actions and decisions for the benefit of the planet and its other inhabitants. The World Nature Photography Awards team plants a tree for each of the thousands of entries received to make money.
The 2023 World Nature Photographer of the Year overall award goes to Jens Cullman from Germany. He captured the winning image below. Crocodiles are known for their quick attacks and savage strength. danger in the mud emphasizes another important weapon: perseverance. This yellow-eyed man has been lying around waiting long enough for the mud on his nose to burn into a cracked crust.

Another thing that caught our attention was ghost of the rocks, won the gold medal in the behavioral invertebrate category. Spaniard Javier Heranz uses long exposures to have waves wash over a motionless red crab, turning it into fog and a veil of air.

And it’s not just category winners.Portugal’s Antonio Coelho may only have won bronze in the Plants and Fungi category, but his image foggy morningBelow is another example of how a different perspective of planet Earth can put the familiar in a spectacularly different light.

With the announcement of the 2023 winners, the World Nature Photography Awards have also opened entries for next year’s competition. The entry fee was £30 (around US$36), with 6 entries and his 6 trees planted.
