The Tribit StormBox Micro was small and tough before it got cool. This hip portable speaker has been a fan favorite for some time. With amazing internals, you can put this little sound box on your bike and drive in the pouring rain without worrying about it. The only department where this speaker lags is in the bass, which isn’t loud enough to excite.

Tribit’s StormBox Micro and StormBox Micro 2 are two of the most popular inexpensive Bluetooth speakers. Both are very similar and the specs match so well that it’s understandably confusing when trying to settle on one pick. The fact that it costs $10 less doesn’t help things either.
Naturally, I had to get both speakers and test them myself. I expected a lot of competition, but it was surprisingly easy to pick the better option.

You might think that both Tribit StormBox speakers are identical twins, but they really aren’t. There are very small differences that are not noticeable at first. With both the StormBox Micro and Micro 2 side by side, these differences become apparent.
First of all, the new StormBox Micro 2 is slightly larger and heavier than ever before.It also has a large button in the fabric grille area, in contrast to the old StormBox Micro. , this is not the StormBox Micro 2’s fault. Unless you fish for these things, you hardly notice them.

Everything else about Tribit speakers is a mirror image of everything else. The placement of all buttons, charging ports and even the built-in strap is the same. Thankfully, neither speaker is cheaply made. Solid construction and sturdy materials give a sense of reliability.
The Tribit StormBox Micro and StormBox Micro 2 speakers are rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, so you can use them in the pool or in the shower. Of course, this is also very friendly for all kinds of travel, whether it’s a tough hike in the hills or a luxury vacation at a fancy resort. You can easily put it in your pack or handbag.

What you don’t see are internal upgrades. The StormBox Micro 2 enhances many of the StormBox Micro’s specs, ditching the 2,600mAh cell for a significantly better 4,700mAh battery. This gives him 12 hours of playback over his 8 hour lifespan on the previous Tribit StormBox Micro.
Another cool update is the ability to use the Tribit StormBox Micro 2 as a power bank in case of a pinch. A handy USB C-to-C cable is included to help with this purpose. Charge any Type-C device, including Android smartphones and tablets. The OG Micro, on the other hand, comes with a regular Type A-to-C cable.

Let’s put all those little details aside and let’s talk about the most important part: the sound quality. But Tribit has made it very simple.
The StormBox Micro 2 sounds much better than the StormBox Micro. I’m not saying the latter are bad speakers. Despite its modest size, the latest generation of his StormBox Micro produces wonderfully loud, crisp notes and doesn’t distort vocals or chords. It’s not very good at pumping hard bass. Bass is easily lost and the speaker is a little unbalanced.
Play the exact same audio sample on both speakers and you’ll notice the difference immediately. I also understand why the StormBox Micro 2 is a bit big and heavy. Tribit certainly tweaked the internal gearing, as the results are great. This amazingly inexpensive little speaker sounds incredibly good. Properly tuned and balanced for satisfying audio quality. It doesn’t sound flat anymore. Sound has life. Punch, kick, pulse, life.
If your StormBox Micro has app support, you can easily fix flat bass. Sure, you can do it with a 3rd party app, but it should be natively available out of the box. Ironically, you don’t have to use it for new speakers.
Tribit StormBox Micro vs. StormBox Micro 2: Which Should You Buy?
The Tribit StormBox Micro worked fine while it lasted. I want to respect that, but at the same time, I can’t ignore the elephant in the room.
Tribit wins with the StormBox Micro 2. I am a big fan of this brand. Especially thanks to the fruity sound produced by the Tribit speakers. The Tribit XSound Mega is my recommendation for everyone. After testing both generations of the Tribit StormBox Micro, I think the Micro 2 has found a similar place in my heart.
Ladies and gentlemen, don’t miss out on a better Bluetooth speaker for only 10 Yen. The Tribit StormBox Micro 2 is definitely a worthy investment and easily outperforms its predecessor on every front.
