So-called “overlay ads” continue to appear when you view YouTube on your desktop browser. As its name suggests, it appears at the top (bottom edge) of the video. They are annoying and even the YouTube team agrees they are being phased out.
After April 6th, users will no longer see ads of this type. It will also no longer be available as an option in YouTube Studio. However, YouTube expects the impact for most creators to be limited as these ads will be replaced by “other ad formats.”

Overlay ads also appeared on mobile, but were discontinued a long time ago and no one objected to their removal. However, it’s not clear what will replace these ads on desktop. , mid-roll and post-roll ads will be the focus.
For more information, see our YouTube Help post. You can also visit this page to see all three of his ads that are still available after April 6th.
