Track adds serious off-grid power to gnarly off-road camper trailer

The Track Tvan Trailer is the toughest towable micro camper on the planet. Now Track has enhanced the series’ off-grid capabilities by increasing lithium battery capacity and solar charging to create the all-new Tvan Lightning. The new, aggressively dimensioned Square Drop leaves the LPG tank behind and enhances the convenience of cooking and camping with sunshine flooding across the hot, dry outback.

At the same time Track Trailer announced its entry into the American market, it was gearing up for its most advanced Tvan to date. In the past, ditching LPG tanks and going fully electric has been a common trend among Australian trailer builders. The truck more than triples the Lightning’s battery capacity compared to other his Tvan models by wiring it with a 500 Ah dual lithium battery system and breaks it down to teardrop size. Also, he triples the solar power to run the battery, and installs a 200 W panel on the roof and a removable 160 W panel on the rear hatch. The battery is also charged by the tow vehicle while driving on roads and trails.

Track increases the size of the inverter from 300 watts to 2,000 watts, allowing Tvan Lightning to run built-in appliances and power 240 V outlets for accessories such as coffee machines and hair dryers. Redarc’s RedVision Total Vehicle Management System centralizes electrical control with an in-trailer display and mobile app.

The Lightning comes with premium kitchen options available on other Tvan models, but replaces the gas hob with a dual hob Safiery induction cooker. The sophisticated hobs include one 1,800 W and one 1,500 W hob (up to 2,000 W total) and features such as touch-sensitive controls and child safety locks. The kitchen also has two 240V outlets for appliances and accessories and is rounded out by a stainless steel worktop, sliding sink, storage drawers and pull-up wrap-around wind deflector.

Lightning’s standard front locker includes a refrigerator slide at the bottom and a slide-out organizer bin at the top. After reconfiguring the electrical hardware, the truck also redesigned the cabin’s underbed storage drawers. A box-like drawer is removed for storage and slides under the double bed to secure it.

The truck’s latest trailer includes a distinctive chin-like rear hatch design that splits into a roof that sandwiches a hard floor and a fabric auxiliary tent. Added to his 5th generation Tvan, his 30-second setup feature track allows campers to bypass the full tent setup and jump straight to bed with the tent in storage. This way, campers can quickly call in the night or escape inclement weather without spending time on extra set-ups.
