Update your Pixel Buds Pro now for a big audio upgrade

What you need to know

  • Google announced that the Pixel Buds Pro will receive spatial audio support earlier this year.
  • Spatial audio with head tracking now extends to earphones.
  • This feature supports streaming apps such as Netflix, YouTube, and HBO Max.

Spatial audio is a big new trend in audio, allowing users to immerse themselves in music and movies. More devices support this feature, and Google’s Pixel Buds Pro are the latest to bring spatial audio to users.

Google detailed the update in Tuesday’s blog post, saying it should be rolled out to users staying today and into next week.

Spatial audio in Pixel Buds Pro makes content “sound richer and have more depth compared to standard stereo wired headsets,” Google says. The update includes head tracking, so moving your head dynamically adjusts the audio based on your orientation.

Of course, you’ll need to use a supported phone and app for the feature to work.Spatial audio is available on the latest Pixel phones with Tensor chips, from Pixel 6 to Pixel 7 Pro. Unfortunately the Pixel 6a and Pixel Buds A-Series are not supported.
