Canalys has released its report on the global wearables market for the fourth quarter and full year 2022. The figure reveals that he shipped 50 million units between October and December. This is a significant 18% decrease, the largest since the data were collected and analyzed.

All five major companies – Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung and Google – saw year-on-year declines in shipments over the holiday period, with only Cupertino showing annual growth for the entire calendar year.

Canalys cited a “challenging fourth quarter macroeconomic environment” as the main reason for the overall decline. Apple continues to be the overwhelming leader and default choice for all iPhone users, and Google managed to keep him in second place despite his 25% drop thanks to the Pixel Watch.

Canalys divides wearables into three categories: basic bands, basic watches, and smartwatches. The distinction between them becomes more blurred with each new device, with Canalys saying smartwatches will grow at around 10%. However, as interest in the basic band dwindles, the wearables market as a whole is set for a modest 2% gain.
