Huawei CEO Richard Yu has been running his company through difficult times, but he and his team haven’t lost their passion for photography. The CEO posted this “random photo” from an unnamed upcoming phone call.
Huawei’s next flagship model camera sample
Yu didn’t try to hide which phone it was, but the Weibo post is labeled “From Huawei P60 Pro.” Presumably this is from a telephoto camera as well as last week’s series of images.
In particular, the camera is said to feature a 64MP OmniVision OV64B sensor and a 3.5x magnification lens. Interestingly, the sensor is said to feature RYYB color filters, something Huawei has been good at for a long time.
As for the other cameras, they should be a pair of 50MP modules – the main Sony IMX888 and the ultra-wide IMX858. It claims a 5,000 mAh battery with 100 W charging, an IP68 rating, and HarmonyOS 3.0.
An initial report claimed the phone would use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, but a later leak pointed to an 8 Gen 2 instead (note: in both cases, due to trade restrictions 4G I’m talking about only chips).
A vanilla Huawei P60 is also expected, which should switch to a 52+50+16MP setup (IMX789 main, IMX858 ultrawide, IMX351 for telemodule).
Going back to the camera sample that Huawei’s CEO shared, this is a pretty tough shot. The phone had enough dynamic range to resolve details on the moon as well as artificially lit buildings against a pitch black background. We’re not buying the “random pic” comment, but it’s pretty flexible nonetheless.
Huawei plans to formalize the P60 series later this month.
