Mice have been born from eggs derived from male cells

Male XY chromosomes, artwork.  The Y chromosome (right) is found in males and is shorter than the X chromosome (top left). The latter are labeled with a white glow that can represent genetic mutations. An individual's gender is determined by the presence or absence of the Y chromosome. Females are XX and males are XY. A chromosome is a condensed form of the genetic material DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) that condenses into a chromosome during cell replication. Each chromosome has two identical strands (chromatids), aligned in parallel and joined at centromeres.

Seven mice were born using the process of turning male cells into egg cells and fertilizing them with sperm. The technology could one day allow men in same-sex couples to have children – With the help of a surrogate mother – A person who is genetically related to both. It may also help women with certain chromosomal states to have biologically related children.
