Reddit will soon be celebrating its 18th anniversary and we are gearing up to update our app to mark the occasion.
According to the official Reddit blog post, there will be some changes to how users interact with the mobile app. The most interesting change coming to the Reddit app soon is a redesign of the feed to better engage users.
This year, Reddit is introducing ‘Read’ and ‘Watch’ filter options to their feeds. If the user is interested in reading several titles while scrolling, the read option may be suitable. This option is very similar to the current “classic” view of the app. This simplifies the content on offer, showing only its original subreddits, titles, and video or photo thumbnails.
The viewing options are tailored for users interested in watching a few videos. This option fills most of the view with video and bottom-placed text, but it feels more like the experience you see on Instagram reels or, more importantly, TikTok. This is probably done on purpose, as many apps are trying to bring the same feeling (Spotify just launched its own TikTok-like improvement).
Reddit also expressed interest in reducing the clutter seen in the app in order to allow users to “find relevant content more quickly and contribute to the community.”
