Hidden in the latest Android 14 Developer Preview 2, XDA Developers have found what appears to be an emoji wallpaper creator for Pixel phones. After enabling it, I looked into my device’s wallpaper options and saw a new “Emoji Lab” option.
While still in early development, users may be able to choose from 14 emojis as part of a custom wallpaper, “mosaic”, “lotus”, “stack”, “sprinkle” or “prism” pattern. Various color options.
It seems that there is also an “Edit Emoji” button. It’s unclear at this time what this means, but it’s possible that more customizations will be possible in the future.

Any wallpaper created with Emoji Lab will be saved in this unique category whenever you try to set it as your device’s background. It also looks like Google may allow users to go back and edit their own work. But if you don’t know what you’re looking for, you can always see the Randomizer button to see what your phone can find automatically.
This wallpaper creator may be fun and welcome, but to see if this will be on Google phones like the Pixel 7 Pro and the upcoming Pixel 8 when Android 14 is fully released. It’s too early. Apparently, further highlighting that this is a potential Pixel exclusive is the flag that needs to be declared: com.google.android.feature.PIXEL_EXPERIENCE.
