I switch devices fairly regularly, so I don’t tend to use a case most of the time. What I do care about is if the device is awkward or has a slippery back.
My Galaxy S22 Ultra needed a case because it wasn’t wide enough on the sides to hold the device comfortably. Similarly, I decided to buy a case for my Galaxy Z Flip 4. This is because we wanted to make sure the foldable is safe for long term use.
As you can see from our post on the best Galaxy Z Flip 4 cases, Samsung has no shortage of foldable options, but I was more interested in a sturdy case that adequately protected the hinge mechanism.
So when the folks at CaseBorne asked if I would be interested in testing their rugged cases, I agreed.CaseBorne is a Texas-based brand known for their Vanguard line of rugged cases, and I agreed. I’m here. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 product is lightweight, has a hinged cover, and works with wireless charging mats.
I got all three color options of the CaseBorne V series for my Galaxy Z Flip 4. After using the case for over a month, I can confidently say that this is a great foldable rugged case. My biggest issue with the rugged case was the size. They were bulky and added too much weight to the phone, but that’s not the issue here.
CaseBorne V weighs just 48g and doesn’t add bulk. It fits snugly and does a great job covering all sides. A hinge cover allows the case to seamlessly bend with the Galaxy Z Flip 4 when the device is opened. A large cutout for the power button makes it easy to use the built-in fingerprint sensor, and the volume rocker is covered.
There are also cutouts for the ports, bottom speaker, outer screen, camera, LED flash module, and microphone. One issue with the USB-C charging port cutout is that if you’re using a larger charging cable (I use one with a built-in power meter) it won’t fit with the case on. is. But with most standard USB-C cables I have laying around, I haven’t seen any issues.
The case extends to the sides of the screen, so even if the foldable case falls downward, it won’t damage the inner panel. The raised edges aren’t extreme enough to limit usability, and CaseBorne strikes an ideal balance in this area. The inside of the case has a foam insert that adds an extra layer of resistance while keeping the phone from picking up scratches.

We tested the case for a month and found the Galaxy Z Flip 4 unscathed after a few rolls on the tiled floor. It’s made of TPU and polycarbonate and isn’t very flexible. A good sign for a rugged case.
My only gripe with the case is that the hinge cover extends outward quite a bit, making it a hindrance to using the foldable when laid flat on a table.
Other than that, the CaseBorne V is a sturdy foldable case that has everything I was looking for. At $40, it’s on the higher side, but it’s worth the asking price because it takes the worry out of using a foldable.
