If you’re looking to buy a new Chromebook and want to be able to play Steam games, there are a few requirements you should be aware of. Google lists the requirements on the Steam on ChromeOS Beta landing page, stating that the Chromebook must use at least an Intel Core i3/Ryzen 3 or better CPU and at least 8GB of RAM.

Steam for ChromeOS games
