Well, if you’ve been wanting to see Matt Damon slap longtime hot man Jimmy Kimmel at the 2023 Oscars, well, the night is still young (about three hours after the telecast).
in all seriousness — or in all seriousness I could probably muster for the former man show Host Kimmel — A metaphorical shot was fired inside Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater on Sunday. It was MC Kimmel at the Academy Awards (she sat just 10 feet away from activist Malala Yousafzai, who was being harassed by a cocaine bear). Kimmel took some cheesy shots at Damon, and Chastain was good sport all around.
But where did this whole Kimmel Damon cow start?
First, let me reiterate that the two are actually very good friends. They only pretend to hate each other…for laughter or something. Here we are doing the same thing at the 2016 Oscars.
The (sexual) tension is palpable.

As for how it all started, well, Kimmel told NPR(opens in new tab) 2013 started with a well-timed joke after a particularly bad taping Jimmy Kimmel Live!
We put on a bad show. … The guest’s response was bad, and I felt bad about myself at the end of the program. And to the amusement of one of the producers who was standing next to me, I said, ‘I want to apologize to Matt Damon. started doing it every night to entertain him.
Why Matt Damon? Really easy. The first thing that came to his mind was the name. The rest, as they say, is pop culture history. And now we can officially call it a regular Oscar bit.
No word on whether Damon will applaud Kimmel, but the Oscars aren’t over just yet.
