‘The Last of Us’: Does Ellie know Joel is lying at the end?

Somehow, after weeks of navigating monsters and cannibals and being threatened with imminent death from nearly every angle, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) all came back to life. Last of Us, right? Time to head to that sheep farm and relax in Season 2?

Well, not so fast. Our dynamic duo may be alive and well (almost) together at the end of Season 1, but an emotional wedge has been forced between them in the form of Joel’s lies .

So what exactly did Joel do and say, and most importantly, does Ellie believe him?

Joel and Ellie reach their goal, the Firefly Hospital. Joel wakes up to find Marlene (Merle Dandridge) standing over him, with news that Ellie has already undergone surgery. She must die in order to create a cure for humanity.

But Joel, who has finally come to love Ellie like a daughter, isn’t about to let that happen. lied to Ellie about what really happened by telling her that he attacked There are others like her, says Joel, but doctors have been unable to find a cure.

problem? As we know Ellie is a sharp kid. She clearly realizes that there is something wrong with Joel’s story. So in the final scene of the season, she confronts him directly.

“Swear,” says Ellie. “Swear to me that everything you said about fireflies is true.”

“I swear,” Joel replies.

And Ellie’s answer following a very long silence and an incredibly illegible look?

“OK.”

Does Ellie know Joel is lying?

Ellie’s reaction to Joel’s story is difficult to read. When he first told her his version of events, she had just woken up and was lying in the back seat of her car. When he finishes her story, she rolls over and turns her back on him, wondering if she is upset by the news or if she doesn’t believe him. It is not clear whether

From this point on, she appears withdrawn, but the final scene reveals that she doubts what Joel said to her. Certainly not. There’s clearly some sort of war going on in her head when Joel swears he’s telling her the truth.

Luckily, Bella Ramsey herself sheds some light on what Ellie is thinking in that final scene. Make sure your character isn’t selling at all.

“She knows he’s not telling the truth,” says Ramsey. It’s been taken from her by someone she loves and trusts.I’m so overwhelmed that I force myself to believe in Joel.”

Thus, the answer to the question of whether Ellie knows she is lying is both yes and no. Deep down, she clearly does. However, she decided to trust him to protect her from further harm. More details may be revealed in Season 2.
