Google overtakes Samsung in wearable market: How did this happen?

The Google Pixel Watch is one of the best smartwatches on the market today, despite its short battery life and some paywall features. It’s the closest device to compete with the Apple Watch, it’s smooth, and it comes with great optimizations and features that most people want to use. Fully integrated with third-party apps and his Fitbit ecosystem, it’s no surprise that Google was able to sell so many units. Or did you? There are several explanations for why Google overtook Samsung in the wearables market, and we’ll go into more detail below.

According to a new report from Canalis, the wearable band market fell 18% to reach 50 million units. This is the first time the fourth quarter has seen double-digit declines despite dominating holiday sales. The smartwatch category suffered a similar fate, declining 17%, while the basic watch market grew just 3%.

The market is largely flat, with Apple leading the way, reaching 27.5% market share and shipping over 13.8 million devices. Google has shipped 4 million devices, with 8% market share and he has moved up to second place. Xiaomi puts him in third place with 7.2% market share and 3.6 million devices shipped, followed by HUAWEI with 6.4% and 3.2 million units. Samsung dropped to fifth place, ending the fourth quarter with his 35% decline. Samsung has a 5.9% market share and shipped just 2.9 million devices amid declining sales.

The smartwatch market will only grow by 3% in 2022, while basic watches will grow by 21%. Basic bands were down 39%, and the overall wearable bands market was down 5%. The news isn’t all that surprising, but given the current economic downturn, it’s not unreasonable for Google to overtake household names like Samsung, HUAWEI, and even Xiaomi. .

Fitbit helped Google establish itself as the wearable leader

Google acquired Fitbit for about $2.1 billion in 2019. This allowed Google to acquire talent and build an already established platform to build on. Google refined his Fitbit product even further, but in the end, not much changed. The company continues to focus on fitness bands and fitness-oriented smartwatches that help users track progress, measure performance, and track health.

The Google Pixel Watch has certainly helped the company become a more established brand name in the wearable market. Customers have certainly noticed. After all, both the Google Store and Fitbit pages highlight his Pixel Watch as one of the best tracking devices users can buy.

Google shipped over 880,000 Pixel watches

of Canalis According to reports, Google shipped 880,000 Pixel Watch devices in Q4 2022. The numbers help the company become a more established player in the space and show demand for smartwatches. Google sells Pixel-branded devices in only nine countries, but it has managed to overtake Samsung and many other companies that have been in business for years. That’s a nice achievement considering the Pixel Watch starts at $349 and $399 for his GPS and LTE models respectively.

What if Google sells devices in 30+ markets? For example, Samsung and Apple are sold in his 60 countries. The company is likely to make more sales and I don’t think it will be able to compete with Apple, but it certainly has the potential to dominate the market and hold onto the number two position for some time.

Pixel 7 bundle boosts Pixel Watch sales

Google was able to ship over 880,000 Pixel Watch devices, but we’re not entirely sure how many of those units were sold. When announced, Google bundled the Pixel Watch with all Pixel 7 Pro devices. A special promotion ran in select countries, including the UK, where every customer who bought a Pixel 7 Pro got his Pixel Watch for free. Those who bought her standard Pixel 7 are getting a big discount to buy a Pixel Watch for significantly less.

We don’t know how many Pixel 7 series devices Google sold. Still, it’s safe to assume that the new flagship device sold well, at least according to Google’s own projections, and shipped tens of thousands of smartwatches to draw people into Google and his Fitbit ecosystem.
