Guardio Labs detected Chat GPT-themed malware masquerading as a Chrome extension called “Quick Access to Chat GPT”. Malware hijacks your Facebook account while playing with so-called AI. It does so for your dime to spread paid ads about yourself and other nuisances on Facebook. It was first posted to the Chrome Web Store on March 3rd and didn’t pull off until the 9th, during which time it was downloaded quite a few times.
Once installed, this app looks for an already active Facebook login and automatically installs two fake Facebook applications, portal and msg_kig, to collect cookies and account data. From there, you can easily take over your account and start buying ads, post it to your friends and other connections, and let them know how great your quick access to Chat GPT is and click to install.
As you can read on The Hacker News, this is not the first time Chat GPT has been used to spread infections.
