Brain-inspired artificial intelligence algorithms called neural networks have been used in everything from chatbots to exploring new laws of physics. Normally, these algorithms run on conventional computers, but Andrew Doe and his colleagues at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign wondered if they could use actual living brain cells instead.
