The red goshawk – a rare and stunningly colorful bird of prey endemic to Australia – has been disappearing rapidly from the continent over the decades.
Already considered Australia’s rarest raptor, the species has lost more than a third of its historic range to extinction in the last 40 years, leaving the remaining 30% barely present. Birds may be significantly more endangered than previously thought.
