Week 11 in review: Galaxy A34 and A54 debut, Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 official

We’re down for another week, so let’s take a look back at the top stories. Samsung’s Galaxy A34 and A54 have finally been announced. Destined to be one of this year’s most popular phones, the duo features a 1080p 120Hz Super AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging, and IP67 water resistance. The Galaxy A54 has a smaller 6.4-inch display, a 50MP main camera and a 5nm Exynos 1380 chipset. The A34 has a 6.6 inch display, a 48MP main camera and a Dimensity 1080 at 6nm. Both are on sale. The Galaxy A54 starts at €490 and the A34 at €390.

There was a ton of leaks from Google this week. The Pixel 7a was actually handled and sold on eBay as a prototype. It has a 6.1-inch display, 8GB of RAM, a Tensor G2 chipset, a 64MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide. The Pixel 7a will launch alongside the Google Pixel Fold in his June. The Google Pixel Fold costs €1,700.

We’ve also seen the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro through leaked renders. The new design has more rounded corners, moving from a boxy look to a more curvy one. The camera island is different, but unmistakably Pixel-esque. Rumor has it that the Pixel 8 Pro will come with a 6.52-inch display, which is smaller than the Pixel 7 Pro’s 6.7-inch display. The Pixel 7’s display is 5.8 inches, which is smaller than the Pixel 7’s 6.3 inches.

Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 7+ gen 2. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 promises a huge boost in performance and power efficiency. The main Kryo CPU core runs at 2.91GHz, offering a performance boost of over 50% compared to SD7 Gen 1 across the 1+3+4 CPU package. Meanwhile, the unnamed Adreno GPU boasts a 2x performance boost. The efficiency gain is a bit more modest, 13% in various scenarios. Hopefully this chipset will be in more phones than its predecessor.

That’s it for this week’s recap. You can check out the full list of top stories below.
