Microsoft Bing and Edge can now generate images using AI.
Microsoft announced on Tuesday(opens in new tab) Bing Image Creator powered by an “advanced version” of OpenAI’s DALL-E model. You can now create an image by entering a description in the Bing search engine or Bing Chat. Image Creator will initially be available in Bing Chat’s “Creative Mode”.

When you’re chatting with Bing and ask it to generate an image, “just describe in your own words what image you want to see” and it will magically bring up the original image. Image Creator is also available in Edge by clicking the icon in the sidebar.

Microsoft and OpenAI have a strong partnership in the field of generative AI. OpenAI’s GPT-4 model underpins the new Bing, which is disrupting Google’s position as the go-to for search and natural language processing.
Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that Bing has over 100 million daily users. A day after Google announced an API for his PaLM language model and an AI integration for Google Docs, Microsoft responded with the release of generative AI in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and other work and productivity apps. Released in 2021, OpenAI’s DALL-E has become famous for its controversial ability to generate images that are realistic enough to be used for deepfakes, making graphic design and photography jobs obsolete.

In the announcement, Mehdi describes Image Creator as a tool for generating visuals for newsletters and inspiration for decorating your living room.
“Historically, searches were limited to images that already existed on the web. Today, there are almost no limits to what you can search and create,” he said.
