Many bike commuters use so-called clipless pedals, as do many mountain bikers taking dark trails when returning from an evening ride. The Dual Color LED Arclight Pro Clipless Pedals are made for just such people.
Redshift Sports has announced the first version of the Arclight pedals for 2021. I reviewed it the following year.
Like its version, the Arclight Pro Clipless Pedals incorporate two weatherproof dual-color LED modules per pedal. One module sits in a slot on the front of the pedal and the other fits in a slot on the back. It’s held in place by magnets, so you can pull it out to charge.

Press and hold the button on each module to power on and switch between flash, eco (battery saving), or steady mode. The pedals act as tail light and visible type headlights, with the added benefit of up-and-down movement that catches the driver’s eye.
There are other lighted pedals on the market, but what really shines with the Arklight is that no matter which way each pedal is facing, the LEDs on the front automatically turn white and the LEDs on the back turn red. That’s it. Without going into too much technical detail, this functionality is made possible by a combination of integrated magnets, magnetic field sensors, and accelerometer/gyroscope chips.
As you can imagine, the Pro Clipless Pedals add a double-sided SPD-style clipless retention mechanism to the center of each pedal. The machined aluminum foot platform remains intact so the pedals can be used with regular shoes if desired. That said, the platform can also be removed temporarily (in two parts) together with the light module.

Battery life is claimed to be up to 36 hours with 2 hours of USB charging. The set of two pedals reportedly tip the scales at a total weight of 678 grams (23.9 ounces) including the lightweight module.
The Arclight Pro Clipless Pedals are available from the Redshift Sports website for a price of US$174.99. Mountain bikers who don’t use clipless pedals may be interested in the Arclight Pro Flat model, which features 10 coated steel traction pins on each side of each platform pedal. The price is $159.99.
