The announcement of OpenAI’s ChatGPT plugin basically shows a blueprint for the future of travel. Travel companies have adopted new technologies in response to emerging concerns and to adapt to new behaviors of people since the beginning of the pandemic. This includes biometric security screening at airports, contactless check-in at hotels, and the simplification and convenience of online booking. For travel booking sites like Expedia and Kayak, it makes sense to integrate conversational AI tools. This tool helps people navigate the stressful and tedious task of planning a trip. Travel aggregators could have lacked the personal touch and attentive customer service that local independent travel agencies provided. Now ChatGPT, acting as your personal assistant, can do its job.
The same concept applies to other companies launching plugins on OpenAI. The Instacart plugin helps you find recipes and create shopping lists. The OpenTable plugin provides links for restaurant recommendations and reservations. Klarna(opens in new tab) Plugins provide users with personalized shopping advice and help them find the products they’re looking for.
Plugin developers interested in integrating ChatGPT into their products can sign up for a waitlist on the OpenAI site. This is just the beginning, but you can already imagine bringing his ChatGPT personal assistant to every app you use.
