Twitter has made a number of changes in the last few hours related to its subscription program, Twitter Blue. The paid plans are now available for purchase globally, according to the company. Also, the cooling-off period for new accounts to purchase Twitter Blue has been changed to 30 days.
When Elon Musk first launched his Twitter Blue plan to distribute certification marks, a large number of accounts began impersonating brands, politicians, and celebrities. The company had to pull back on rolling out paid plans as soon as possible. To avoid this kind of mishap when reopening, Twitter added a condition that newly created accounts must wait 90 days before being able to subscribe to his Twitter Blue.
Now, the company has changed its terms and reduced the waiting time for new accounts to get social network subscriptions to 30 days.
“New Twitter Blue subscriptions are available worldwide on the web, iOS, or Android. Not all features are available on all platforms. and may impose a waiting period for new accounts in the future, without notice, at our discretion,” reads Twitter’s blue page.
Musk & co. is also removing legacy verification checkmarks starting April 1st. Under previous administration, these blue marks highlighted prominent figures such as politicians, activists, journalists and other celebrities. The company urged people and organizations to sign up on Twitter Blue to tick it off. Specifically, Twitter’s Verified Organizations service costs $1,000 per month, with an additional $50 fee per affiliate.
