Originally, an earlier leak about the new Qualcomm chip codenamed ‘Lanai’ suggested it might feature a 1+5+2 core configuration. The upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform is now said to include a 2+3+2+1 core configuration. This configuration is quite different from the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s 1+4+3 configuration.
According to the leak, the upcoming SoCs will consist of ‘Silver’, ‘Gold’, ‘Titanium’ and ‘Gold+’ cores respectively. Wojciechowski says the new chip will be the first to include a “titanium” cluster, but not much is known about how it will differ or how it will affect phone performance. Additionally, according to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 core leak, the codenames “Hunter” and “Hayes” refer to unannounced CPU cores. Apparently these cores dropped 32-bit support. That means Qualcomm’s upcoming chips could possibly only support 64-bit, as referenced in some of the company’s code.
This means that a 64-bit-only phone could arrive later this year, following the launch of the Pixel 7, which was the first Android phone to feature that distinction.
Strong and stable graphics are also important for the phone, and the leak touches on that, suggesting that the next release could feature an Adreno 750 GPU.
