Bold experimentation with gaming capabilities on mobile devices has gained momentum among OEMs and developed into a full-blown trend led by brands such as Asus. The Taiwanese tech giant has confirmed when it will unveil its next flagship phone.
According to the company, Asus will announce the ROG Phone 7 on April 13th. The timing is considerably earlier than last year’s ROG Phone 6 launch, which arrived in July.
Little is known about the ROG Phone 7, but if previous leaks are any indication, it could be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Earlier this month, the smartphone was spotted alongside its 7D siblings on benchmarking platform Geekbench. Asus’ ROG Phone remains a mainstay of our top picks for the best gaming phones, and the ROG Phone 7 will likely continue that trend. Some key specs of the handset have been revealed, including an AMOLED screen.
Like the previous lineup, the ROG Phone 7 series could also see three models. This means that in addition to the regular ROG Phone 7D model, an Ultimate model may also be in development.
One of Asus’ weaknesses, however, is its limited software updates. The company’s products, including the ROG Phone line, are currently undergoing two major OS upgrades. We expect Asus to follow in the footsteps of Google, Samsung, Oppo and OnePlus to offer longer software support.
