Shmigadon! Season 2 begins several years after the end of Season 1. Melissa (Cecily Strong) and Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) have settled into their marriage, but can’t shake the feeling that they should be happier. A return trip to Shmigadoon seems to be the solution they need to get their happy ending. ?
But when the two return to the world of music, they have a rude awakening. Gone are the rolling hills and quaint houses of Shmigadhun. They’ve been replaced by seedy nightclubs and corrupt courtrooms in Schmicargo City, where the musicals of the ’60s and his ’70s flourish.
It’s a big style twist, but just the right high kick for pants Shmigadon! It should stay fresh and fun.like a darker, gritty show sweeney todd, cabaretand of course, Chicago Everything has its moment in the limelight and shines. Unlike in Season 1, musical-loving Melissa is less comfortable with these references, preferring a bright, fun show.this departure from Shmigadon!‘s first formula provides the perfect opportunity for Melissa and Josh to naively unleash their naiveté throughout Schmicargo.

The town of Schmicago is a very different environment than the village of Schmigadoon, but most of the town’s inhabitants are familiar faces from Season 1. You’re playing a completely different character here.
Kristin Chenoweth is an orphan-hating cross Anniewith Miss Hannigan of sweeney toddMrs. Lovett, Alan Cumming, plays a cleaver-wielding butcher who resembles a certain barber with a razor. Shmigadon! pay tribute to cabaret through a take on Dove Cameron’s fast-talking, chair-dancing Jenny Banks and iconic host Ariana DeBose. hair with a sharp dash of jesus christ superstarand Jane Krakowski gets plenty of chances to charm us as a gender-swapped Billy Flynn. ChicagoShe may be the only one who can save Josh from the electric chair when he is accused of murder.
Shmigadon! It also adds two fantastic guest stars to an already phenomenal cast. First up is the always hilarious Titus Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)(opens in new tab) As Shumi Cargo’s resident narrator.He spreads his arms, channels and welcomes us into the story Pippinbut quickly becomes irritated by Melissa and Josh’s constant questioning.
Then comes Patrick Page as the villainous Octavius Kratt. Its sharp suits and industrial ventures can’t help but recall Paige’s turn as Hades in 2019. Hadestown. (know Shmigadon! Paige brings his signature deep voice to this menacing role, giving us the season’s most chilling antagonist.

As someone who prefers 60’s and 70’s musicals to Golden Age musicals, I admit I’m biased to say I enjoyed season 2’s musical numbers more than season 1’s.The songs don’t tend to be overly satirical — except for one number that would have been shocking by ’60s standards, we get a very polite “oh cool” from Josh and Melissa. a parody moreStill, you’re doing Cumming and Chenoweth sweeney todd; Strong, Cameron and DeVose are doing it cabaret; Krakowski does an amazing mashup Chicago and companyLet’s talk about the best Broadway fanfiction of all time! Add in the choreography and staging that provide an excellent comical tribute to the original and you have some standout numbers.
The tribute goes beyond musical numbers. The dialogue evokes the lyrics of iconic songs or questions old musical conventions.Storefronts and street signs are littered with references to famous composers of the era, but glorious costumes with lingerie and bowler hats will quickly tell you which show leads you to Shmigadon! is referring to
Shmigadon! There is a danger that it will be nothing more than a series of parodies. But this season is wrapped up by a sweet story about working towards happiness, not just for Josh and Melissa, but for everyone in town. , 6 episodes is not enough. Shmigadon! It would take too long to dig deep into each character’s life.but it doesn’t stop Shmigadon!A journey from the complete blast of the 60’s and 70’s. I mean, when you have a cast this great and songs this fun, can you really go wrong?
