Porsche showed us the interior of its next Cayenne SUV, but in Stuttgart it looks like the button is back in the menu. at least some.

The almost entirely touchscreen user interface was probably the only thing Porsche failed to do in the otherwise excellent Taycan. Indeed, when Audi used that car’s platform to create its own electric express e-tron GT, the climate control touchscreen was gone and replaced with real buttons to make things hotter and hotter. It was noteworthy that it got colder and more or less windy.Unlike the Taycan, the e-tron GT also doesn’t require you to use the touchscreen to aim for the air vents.

It is therefore encouraging to see the Porsche design team listening to feedback. Because the Cayenne’s refreshed interior incorporates plenty of Taycan-like touches in many other ways.

Like the electric Porsche, the curvaceous main instrument display has no shrouds or binnacles. (The screen surface has an anti-glare coating, so it is always readable even on sunny days with sunglasses on.)

If you’ve driven a Taycan or a Porsche 911, the steering wheel will look familiar. As the familiar shift lever is retired from another Porsche, so is the knurled metal lever used to move forward or backward.

But the air vents are again manually directed, and the center console has physical switches for controlling temperature and ventilation.

I asked Porsche what prompted the change.In the wake of the Taycan, I wonder how they decided which controls belonged on the touchscreen and which needed dedicated switches, buttons or knobs. ?

“So there are two things that are important to us. First … we look at things that are analogues and that come from our traditions, which are very important for delivering this brand identity, for example. , the drive mode switch is a good example of this,” explains Ivo van Hulten, Director of User Experience Design at Porsche.
