Your phone’s durability is more important outside of the case, and recent testing of Samsung’s latest release shows the impact of its material choices.
The latest S23 series uses the new Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which is tougher than previous iterations. However, the phone also uses more recycled materials than any previous line released by his Korean OEM. This is one of the reasons behind the latest Destructibility Test video by Allstate Protection Plans.
Allstate Protection Plans started by using DropBot to free fall a device from a height of 6 feet. Starting with a head-on drop test, the base model of the Galaxy S23 shattered, puffed up, and suffered loose glass damage. The Galaxy S23+ suffered some cracks and glass damage while the frame was hit. Despite being curved, the S23 Ultra held up very well and suffered minimal cracking.
In our second test, we dropped the phone first. The back of the S23 cracked quite noticeably around the impact. The S23+ was a little stronger, but the owner of the Galaxy S23 Ultra could hear a hoarse voice from high up as his 6-foot back drop devastated its most prominent feature.
One of the driving forces behind this destructiveness test was to see if Samsung’s choice to use sustainable materials compromised the series’ durability in any way. During the promotional stage of the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung was certain to put its “Galaxy for the Planet” initiative at the forefront. of recycled materials, with 22% recycled glass, 80% recycled PET, and 20% recycled ocean plastic.

If anything, it’s a good example of why you should use a Galaxy S23 Ultra case or screen protector. Because these phones are not cheap.
However, I wouldn’t say this video is any less heart-wrenching than the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s scratches and burns.
