Skateboarding is a fun way to get around town, but most boards must be carried by hand or strapped to a backpack when not in use. Koala Boards Skateboards offer an easier alternative as they magnetically snap into the included pack.
The koala, which is currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign, was designed by Oren Mendellow, a New Jersey-based skateboarder and entrepreneur.
Almost like any other quality cruiser skateboard with one exception. Two magnets are embedded in holes in the top/front of a North American hard maple deck. When the board is lifted and placed on the back of a system-specific backpack, these magnets engage his two other magnets within his two receptacles on that pack.

Mendelow is quick to point out that the magnets help guide everything into place, but an additional clasp mechanism in the receptacle holds the skateboard in place. The mounted board is reported to be able to withstand over 130 lbs (59 kg) of outward pulling force, yet the board can be removed from the pack by simply sliding it up.
Potential buyers who do not want to purchase a backpack can choose an attachment kit consisting of two receptacles that the user attaches to an existing pack. In addition to these two receptacles, the Koala Boards backpack itself adds padded sleeves for a 15.6-inch laptop and tablet, luggage straps, USB charging ports, shoulder straps and back padding.
On Kickstarter, packages starting at $119 USD for just the wheelless deck and attachment kit, and up to $299 USD for a complete skateboard and Koala Boards backpack. Retail price is 20% higher.
