Motorola’s latest flagship phone, the Moto X40, debuted in China late last year with many of the specs found in many of this year’s top Android phones, including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The company may soon introduce a global version of the X40 with nearly identical hardware.
This means that the upcoming device, dubbed the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, could include Qualcomm’s latest and greatest mobile processor, according to leaker SnoopyTech. Tipsters also spilled the beans on some of the key specs we can expect from the upcoming device.

According to the latest leaks, the Edge 40 Pro will stick to the same specs as the Moto X40, including a 6.67-inch display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a 4600mAh battery that supports 125W fast charging. Rear cameras will likely include a 50MP main sensor, plus a 50MP ultra-wide shooter and a 12MP telephoto camera.
The leak also claims that the Edge 40 Pro will cost €899 and will ship in Lunar Blue. Memory configurations can include up to 2 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 Ultra in a comparable configuration costs $1,199.
A few days ago, renderings of the Edge 40 Pro surfaced online, suggesting a sleeker-looking handset featuring a larger curved display and a new stereo speaker setup.
But while the Pro models seem to take design cues from the X40, the regular models may not.According to a prolific leaker Steve Hemerstoffer (opens in new tab) (@OnLeaks), the vanilla Motorola Edge 40 looks different than the China-only model. Renderings shared by Hemmerstoffer in collaboration with The Tech Outlook (opens in new tab) The handset suggests only rocking a dual camera setup consisting of a 50MP main shooter and a 13MP ultra-wide angle lens.
Elsewhere, the phone resembles its Pro sibling, with a curved AMOLED screen and a square camera island on the back. The device can opt for MediaTek’s Dimensity 8020 chipset instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Other rumored specs for the phone include a 4,400mAh battery that supports 68W fast charging and 15W wireless charging.A 32MP selfie camera can also be mounted on the front.
It’s the cheaper version, so it should be cheaper than the Edge 40 Pro. According to tipsters, the base configuration of the vanilla version (8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage) is available for €599.
No word yet on when these devices will debut, but if Motorola follows last year’s launch schedule, the Edge 40 series could arrive in May or earlier.
