What you need to know
- Vivo has confirmed that users may see more information about the upcoming X Fold 2 in April.
- After the Boao Forum for Asia, Vivo said the new phone would be an “all-round flagship configuration”.
- Currently, the device is speculated to have an 8-inch display, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, and a 50MP main camera in a triple camera array.
Vivo’s next 2nd generation foldable phone could be coming soon as teasers have started to roll out.
The Chinese OEM recently confirmed via a Weibo post (via 91Mobiles) that the X Fold 2 could be on sale soon. A machine-translated Chinese post describes his Vivo excitement announcing a new foldable phone at the Boao Forum for Asia. The company says the X Fold 2 features an “all-around flagship configuration” with a “light and thin flagship feel”.
Vivo declined to reveal any details about its second-generation foldable device through a brief announcement post. But the company gives us something to look forward to in April, saying “more surprises” await. Although not explicitly stated, this could mean that it’s gearing up for a proper launch, or that Vivo will officially reveal details next month.
The company’s first X Fold phone was announced around the same time last year, so April makes sense for a full reveal.
Given that Vivo is touting flagship specs, expectations are swirling, and people are just wondering what that means when it releases properly.
At the moment, it is assumed that the Vivo X Fold 2 may contain a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Having the latest chipset gives the foldable phone an edge over other foldable phones that still use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The next foldable mobile phone is the “folding screen” developed by the company’s “most powerful Vivo.”
As for photography, the device is rumored to feature a triple camera array with a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 12MP telephoto lens. A Weibo leaker of his Digital Chat Station says that the X Fold 2 will be equipped with his IMX866 + V2 ISP 3-camera imaging system and may not have a periscope lens. This could explain why we’ve only heard rumors of a triple array, rather than a quad like the original X Fold.
The X Fold 2’s selfie camera is also rumored to come at 32MP, which is double the front-facing camera found on its predecessor. The new foldable is also rumored to be around 10% lighter than the first iteration. In a way, it doubles down on Vivo’s brief mention that this kind of phone offers a “light” feel.
Finally, consumers may find a slightly larger battery on the X Fold 2. That’s because it’s speculated to offer a 4,800mAh battery with a super-fast 120W quick charge.
It’s all speculation for now, but hopefully we’ll learn more about what Vivo has in store for us in April. This could also include the first clamshell foldable to compete with the Galaxy Z Flip 4
