On April 3, 1973, Martin Cooper pulled a large brick phone out of his pocket and began dialing numbers into a large cream-colored device. It took 10 hours to charge the phone and only 30 minutes talk time. This was unimaginable by today’s standards. It weighed 800 grams, was 25 cm long and had a brick-like thickness, hence its nickname. It could store 30 phone numbers, had buttons and a small display. In 1984, the phone sold for his $3,995, equivalent to about $11,560 after adjusting for inflation.

The DynaTAC 8000X was out of reach for many, but Motorola sold over 300,000 units. After that, Motorola released the “Classic”, “International”, “6000XL” series, etc., and the subsequent models quickly sold more than 1 million units.
