Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept brings a light show to New York

Not shy about exploring futuristic styling through concept cars, Genesis unveiled the GV80 Coupe concept this week. Its latest concept continues the brand’s heritage New York Auto Show concept and delves into more sporty ambitions, revealing swept-back dimensions and a coupe-like roofline. Beyond the overly racy interior and wraparound lighting design that seems more distracting than useful, the new concept looks sophisticated enough for production.

Genesis unveiled the GV80 Coupe Concept ahead of this week’s New York International Auto Show at Genesis House, a multipurpose space that includes an auto showroom, restaurant, stage and library in Manhattan’s slaughterhouse district. The car represents Genesis’ interpretation of his coupé, a crossover that has become a staple in many luxury brand lineups.

Genesis says the new coupe is a derivative of the X Speedium Coupe Concept that was unveiled at last year’s New York Auto Show, but the front lighting features and centrally positioned grille are reminiscent of the 2021 X Concept. In any case, the latest design has lost his low, streamlined two-door stance in favor of a thicker and more practical four-door crossover body. Genesis says it foresees plans for a sportier, performance-focused model.

“In its inception, the Genesis brand began manufacturing luxury sedans that evolved into the G70, G80 and G90 models,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer. “Over the last seven years, we have added more lifestyle-oriented models to our portfolio, such as the GV80 and his GV70 SUV. Now, we are pushing the boundaries with a more emotional vehicle that enhances the performance and dynamic attributes of the Genesis. increase.”

The GV80 Coupe Concept doesn’t hide its rear-wheel drive configuration under a ‘magma’ orange skin, thanks to a long bonnet and rearwardly pushed visual mass. Large wheels, a flared rear fender and a ducktail spoiler further enhance the car’s sporty looks.

We love the sharp, distinctive look of the Genesis’ quad headlamps and dual wraparound taillight strips, but the added set of white lights behind the front wheels is a little too much and distracts from the clean, sleek side design. will distract you.

Black nappa leather and suede accented with checkered double stitching, orange piping and a carbon fiber weave. And just in case you were in doubt about the car’s sporty intentions, Genesis added a race-like G-Matrix strut brace between the rear seat and the window.
