In 2019, imaginative and respected motorcycle designer Erik Buell launched a long-distance electric bike under his new Fuell brand on Indiegogo. Now the original his Fluid has acquired his two brothers boasting Valeo’s latest auto-shift his mid-driver motor.
As mentioned in our article on the Flow electric bike and the original Fluid ebike, the man behind the brand is considered one of the motorcycle industry’s greatest innovators. Initially doing engineering under the Harley-Davidson umbrella, he went solo until 2015, after which he launched Fuel (formerly his VanguardSpark) and successfully crowdfunded his first Fluid ebike. It’s been a little quieter.
The Fuell team has improved the long range formula for their latest addition. The Flluid-2 Stepover model features two 1kWh battery packs that can be removed for indoor charging, combined with pedal assist per charge, and has a range of up to 225 miles (362 km). , five miles longer than the triple-battery Eunorau Flash we covered yesterday.

A more accessible step-through Fluid-3 rolls up to 110 miles (177 km) on a single 1 kWh battery before you plug it in. , or until full with 6.
Each ebike features a Gates carbon belt drive and Valeo’s new 750W Cyclee mid-drive motor. Riders can also switch gears manually if desired.
The standard configuration has pedal assist up to 20 mph and throttle up to 20 mph on. But Fuel also produces his 28 mph (45 km/h) S-Pedelec version with a 1,000 W motor for those wanting Class 3 riding. Regulatory restrictions in Europe make low-power e-bikes available in that region.
The new model rocks a similar aesthetic to the original, arresting an aluminum alloy frame that supports rider heights from 5.08 to 6.39 feet (1.55 to 1.95 m). Built-in connectivity wirelessly links each model to a smartphone running a companion mobile app for remote unlocking, anti-theft alerts, GPS tracking, and detailed dives into ebike data.

The Flluid-2/3 long-distance urban explorer rolls on 27.5 wheels with suspension forks, Pirelli Angel GT urban tires and Tektro hydraulic brakes for stopping power. Each includes a 900-lumen Roxim Z4E Pro headlight and a braking he taillight, rear cargo rack, full fenders and side kickstand for increased visibility in daytime traffic and nighttime riding .
“Creating the Fuel Fluid-2 & 3 e-bikes was a complex and demanding journey, requiring years of research and development,” said Buell, CTO of the company. “We created an e-bike that comfortably fits all customers from 5 feet to 6 feet 4 in height, stuffed a 2,000 Wh battery into the frame, made sure it wasn’t oversized, and much more. We are proud to have successfully overcome all these challenges, including the right balance of agility and confident handling and riding experience, to develop an e-bike that meets the needs of today’s urban commuter. I am proud to announce it.”
Fuell has set the Indiegogo pledge level for the Flluid-2 step-over ebike at $3,999 USD and the step-through Flluid-3 at $3,699 USD. The usual crowdfunding caveats apply, but if all goes according to plan with the already-funded campaign, shipments are expected to begin in July. There are more videos below.
