I thought the Motorola Edge 40 would be announced alongside the Edge 40 Pro, but it wasn’t. Unlike the Pro, it’s brand new hardware (Pro is based on Moto X40).
More importantly, the price was also leaked at €600. Of course, this is just a leak, but the rumors were correct that the Pro model would cost €900, so the €300 difference between them could have a big impact on the desirability of each phone.
There are some new images of the Moto Edge 40, starting with “Viva Magenta” (the hue recently used for the Edge 30 Fusion). Viva Magenta was named his 2023 Pantone Color of the Year, so it has a small Pantone badge on the back.

Here are some additional colorways, all shared by Roland Quandt. Note that all but the blue ones have a faux leather texture. These colors should be known as Nebula Green, Luna Blue and Eclipse Black.

As a quick refresher, the vanilla Motorola Edge 40 is expected to feature a Dimensity 8020 with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GGB of storage, a 6.55-inch FHD+ OLED display (20:9, 144Hz), 50MP Main camera (1.0µm pixel, f/1.4 aperture, OIS), 13MP ultra-wide angle module (120°), 2MP macro cam, front 32MP selfie camera (0.7µm, f/2.4).
The battery has a capacity of 4,400mAh and supports 68W wired TurboPower charging and 15W wireless charging. Both the synthetic leather and acrylic versions have IP68 dust and water resistance ratings. One thing we don’t know yet is when Motorola will make this model official.
