Samsung and AMD extend licensing agreement for Radeon graphics in future Exynos chipsets

Samsung and AMD have agreed to extend their strategic partnership starting in 2019. This brings AMD Radeon graphics technology to Samsung Exynos chipsets. The new multi-year partnership is said to bring several generations of high-performance, ultra-low-power AMD Radeon graphics solutions to his Exynos chipset for console-level graphics quality and optimized power consumption. I’m here.

Samsung has been working with AMD to revolutionize mobile graphics. This includes a recent collaboration that brought ray tracing capabilities to mobile processors for the first time in the industry. With our technical know-how in designing ultra-low power solutions, we continue to drive continuous innovation in the mobile graphics space. – Seogjun Lee, EVP of AP Development, Samsung Electronics

A previous deal between the two companies was signed in 2019 resulting in the Exynos 2200 featuring a custom Xclipse GPU based on the AMD RDNA2 architecture with hardware-based ray tracing and variable rate shading (VRS). The Exynos 2200 SoC was featured in the European unit of the Galaxy S22 series and showed better performance, albeit better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
