A major US fast food company has sent out breach notifications to individuals affected by a ransomware incident in January.
Yum Brands, which owns KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut, was hit by a ransomware breach around January 13th. A few days later he was forced to close his 300 stores across the UK for a day as a result, according to documents filed with the SEC.
“The data was obtained from the company’s network and an investigation is ongoing, but at this stage there is no evidence that the customer database was stolen,” it said at the time.
A new Notice of Infringement, dated April 6, has now been sent to an unidentified individual believed to be an employee of Yum Brands.

The company claims it “saw no evidence of identity theft or fraud” related to the compromised information, but will provide two years of free credit monitoring and privacy protection to those affected. providing.

The company and its subsidiaries employ about 36,000 people worldwide, including 23,000 in the United States. It operates approximately 54,000 franchised restaurants worldwide.
In its 2022 annual report, the company said, “We have incurred and may continue to incur certain costs associated with this attack, including costs to respond, remediate and investigate this issue. There is.”
