The nameplate of the world’s most beloved mini camper has become a full micro. The Mitsubishi Delica is loved around the world as the foundation of a capable camper and adventure van that far exceeds its weight.The all-new Delica Mini is optimized for safe and confident “everyday adventures.” It also carries on the rugged look of its older brother in a fun, small format. It won’t be long before the Japanese camper conversion industry turns them into amazingly efficient rigs that are perfect for “weekly adventures.”
As planned, Mitsubishi debuted the Delica Mini at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon in January, previewing the adventure-seeking future of light wagons. The company plans to officially bring the Mini to market next month, and says it has received 9,000 pre-orders since opening the book on January 13.
The 134-inch (340 cm) Delica Mini shares the latest D:5 upright design, dynamic shield front end and skid-plate style lower bumper, borrowing liberally from the larger Delica vans. Mitsubishi softens the harsh first impression with a set of smiley semi-circular LEDs that add a touch of playful personality.

Mitsubishi doesn’t hide the fact that it envisioned the Delica Mini as an outdoor adventure mobile. The kei’s ultra-compact dimensions, combined with available 4WD and grip control systems, promise to make it a formidable all-terrain explorer and all-weather hauler. It puts out 51 hp (38 kW) and 44 lb-ft (60 Nm) of torque. Buyers can also upgrade to a 74 lb-ft (100 Nm) he turbocharged 3 with 63 hp (47 kW).
The adventure-inspired design continues inside where a split-folding rear bench slides 12.6 inches (32 cm) fore and aft, allowing drivers more cargo space over a dirt-resistant cargo bed. The back of the seat is covered with an easy-to-clean protective material, and the seat itself is finished with an easy-to-wipe, water-repellent fabric. Sliding side doors can be opened with a flick of the foot under the threshold for convenient hands-free opening for loading.

It may be a while before the first Delica Mini light camper arrives, but Mitsubishi is already thinking of camping adventures with its latest micro vehicle. Advertisements show the Mini is being used for family camping, using the van’s Tokyo Auto Salon debut to team up with global camping brand Coleman on a tiny Delica Mini x Coleman campervan, and some more. A revamped concept was explored. Also on display was the rugged, topo-decorated Snow Survivor, which features an in-vehicle bed system.

The Delica Mini will officially go on sale at Mitsubishi dealers nationwide on May 25th. It starts between ¥1,804,000 and ¥2,238,500 (about $13,500 to $16,750) depending on the specs. Available technologies include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and Forward Collision Mitigation.
