Camera drone specialist DJI has announced the launch of the successor to its 2016 pro-grade Inspire 2 all-in-one cinema drone. The latest model comes with a full-frame gimbal camera capable of 8K video, more precise positioning technology, and improved obstacle detection.
“Inspire 3 is the professional-level aerial platform that every filmmaker has been waiting for,” said Ferdinand Wolf, DJI Creative Director. “Being able to record in cinematic-grade image quality previously only available in large, unwieldy camera systems, allows users to maximize the potential of every shot. I’m looking forward to seeing how it pushes typography to a whole new level.”
The new Inspire is powered by the lightweight Zenmuse X9-8K Air gimbal camera, built around a full-frame CMOS image sensor and paired with DJI’s CineCore 3.0 image processing engine. The camera module is designed for DL mount lenses and is capable of 8192 x 4320 resolution video capture at 25 frames per second in CinemaDNG and 75 fps in ProRes RAW format on the included 1TB SSD. It has a read speed of 900 MB/s and can be cabled directly to your computer via USB-C to transfer footage.

ProRes RAW also allows for uncropped 4K slow motion footage at up to 120 fps, and the camera can also snap 8,192 x 5,456 pixel photos. Low-light performance is delivered thanks to dual native ISO of EI 800/4,000 full-frame capture at 30 frames per second or less, or EI 320/1,600 at 30 fps or more, and the setup offers over 14 stops of dynamic range.
The Inspire 3 is equipped with RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) positioning technology that delivers centimeter-level accuracy. This not only improves flight stability, but also powers the new Waypoint Pro feature that aids in custom route and shot planning. A trolley function that simulates a crane, cable cam, or trolley. The embedded GNSS positioning system also relies on a double-layer ceramic RTK antenna.
The Cinema Drone uses nine visual sensors for all-around obstacle detection. Pilots are given the option to disable active dodges and rely on audio/visual prompts for more creative possibilities.
