Raspberry Pi Ltd has secured an unknown amount of money from Sony Semiconductor Solutions to extend the power of its tiny computer to handle AI applications. This isn’t the first time Sony has invested in his Raspberry Pi, and has been helping the nonprofit for several years with both cash and production technology. This has really helped supply these boards, but demand is outstripping production, especially now that companies are scooping them up for use in manufacturing and controllers.
Enthusiasts are already using Raspberry Pi builds for AI applications, especially vision systems. OpenCV, aka Open Computer Vision, is a popular, albeit somewhat frustrating, application that allows the Pi to perform image recognition. This new investment round includes access to Sony’s Aitrios platform. This will allow the Raspberry Pi device to communicate with his IMX500 imaging sensor. This greatly improves the device’s ability to perform visual learning tasks.
