Medical skateboards that allow very premature babies to move around soon after birth reduce delays in motor development.
About one-third of babies born very preterm (before 32 weeks of gestation) have subtle motor deficits such as delayed crawling or learning to walk, difficulty catching a ball, or in severe cases, cerebral malformation. It develops movement disorders, including conditions such as paralysis.
One reason for this is that babies born prematurely have less time to practice moving their limbs and developing muscles within the supporting environment of the womb, says Marianne of the University of Paris-Cité, France. says Barb Ross.
