Commissioned to design a new bar for a whiskey distillery, Roomoo Design Studio came up with the clever idea of incorporating discarded whiskey barrels into the design. Rather than simply stacking barrels, he carefully dismantles them and uses pieces of wood to create stunning interiors.
Laizhou Bar is located in Shanghai, China. Roomoo Design Studio used approximately 6,000 individual pieces of wood and their metal rings taken from dismantled oak barrels to create the exterior and interior of the bar. Each piece of wood is slightly different in width, length and grain, and small imperfections and differences add character.
The exterior of the bar incorporates a collection of wooden pieces sticking out in simple patterns. Meanwhile, the store is his 200 square meters (approximately 2,150 square feet) and is divided into a whiskey tasting area, red wine area, VIP room, bar, kitchen and bathrooms. The space is clad in an impressive double-ring structure composed of his 3,000 timbers arranged in ten tiers. The wood was also used to create the partition area and Roomoo Design Studio used the fabric to imitate the oak texture his pattern on the background wall.
