It looks like it’s time to upgrade
If you’ve been waiting for a new Sound Blaster sound card, the long drought has finally come to an end. The new X5 Hi-Res Dual DAC USB Sound Card is available directly from Sound Blaster for $280. This gives you a dual Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC with TOSLINK optical, RCA, USB A and C. In addition, you can connect your headphones to the Xamp headphone bi-amp with an unbalanced 3.5mm jack or a balanced 4.4mm jack. Inputs are matched with output choices, and an additional 3.5mm mic jack makes it an all-in-one audio solution.
In terms of audio quality, Hardware Asylum were very impressed with how their previously used Sound Blaster X7 and X5 Hi-Res Dual DAC USB compared. Like most Sound Blaster products, it works right out of the box, but you’ll need to install some software if you want to get the most out of it. The Creative app expands your options on PC, is also available for Android and iOS, and can be linked to your gaming console.
