it wasn’t the offline mode we requested
Those of you who planned to play Diablo IV over the weekend probably found that impossible. The server has been down for over 10 hours since early Sunday morning, ruining many gamers’ plans for the day. The outage was revealed to be the result of a DDoS attack against Blizzard. Diablo IV wasn’t the only target, the attack rendered many Blizzard games that require a constant online connection completely unplayable.
This attack marks one of many discussions people have had about a proper single-player Diablo IV. Today’s games require you to be online all the time, and if you lose your connection, you won’t be able to play the game. Online connectivity allows you to detect and flag any hacks or exploits being used, so this makes sense if you’re actively participating in leaderboards or want to show off your prowess in hardcore mode. It is fulfilled.
For those who don’t care about rankings and just want to mash buttons and kill monsters, the status quo stinks.
