When you have WiFi signal issues, it’s very difficult to troubleshoot. WiFi signal boosters and repeaters are often pretty much worthless, and many models simply don’t boost the signal at all, or you have to string several together to get line-of-sight to your router. Gone are the days of external antenna ports on laptops, so what the old Pringles can do now only works on a few models. If you have a spare satellite dish, you can always place the receiver in the center of it, but that can be a bit of an eyesore.
Hackaday posted a project that might be the solution you need, with instructions including how to build your own helical antenna. This should be receive-only, as some countries have very strict limits on how much power is allowed to broadcast in the 2.4 GHz range. This is very effective at improving reception and outperforms the Maxlink antenna that Dereksgc purchased for comparison. Access to a 3D printer is required to utilize the CAD files provided to create the antenna. There is also a helical antenna calculator that can be used to determine the required specifications.
