Technology that actually works!
The 2023 Hackaday Awards will continue to announce finalists in the Assistive Technology category. These projects focus on designing technologies that improve the lives of people facing challenges that many of us don’t. One of the most interesting finalists, she figured out how to create her inexpensive 3D braille printer that can emboss braille text onto standard paper. A similar project jumped over dead trees to create an “electromechanical refreshable braille display” that uses cheap magnets to provide a tactile web experience.
There are also projects that allow deaf people to visually detect sounds occurring in their surroundings, and robotic hands that can translate spoken words into ASL. All projects are fully viewable on Hackaday. To be eligible to become a finalist, participants must provide a complete materials list and detailed instructions on how to assemble the components into a working design.
